Why babywearing?

Because It Feels Good and Does Good!

From the moment your baby is born, skin-to-skin contact is essential. Not just during those magical first hours after birth, but also in the months that follow. This connection is more than just comforting—it’s beneficial in many ways. Did you know that when you carry your baby, both of you produce the cuddle hormone oxytocin? This hormone fosters a deep bond and provides additional benefits: a steady heartbeat, reduced muscle tension, improved digestion, and even faster growth.

Babywearing becomes a powerful tool during those challenging and restless moments with your little one. And honestly, isn’t it wonderful to keep your baby close? Those tiny hands, that warm little body snuggled against you—it’s not just practical, it’s a precious bonding moment.

Babywearing in Everyday Life

You’re probably already “carrying” more than you realize. Especially during the early months, you’re constantly picking up your baby, rocking them to sleep, or walking around humming a tune. Maybe you’re already using a wrap or carrier when grocery shopping or taking a stroll.

But what happens when questions arise? Maybe carrying starts to hurt, even with a specialized baby carrier. Or you’re not sure which wrap or carrier is the best fit for your situation. That’s when it’s time to reach out to a babywearing consultant!

What Does a Babywearing Consultant Do?

A babywearing consultant is an expert in all things related to carrying your baby. Whether you want to learn how to tie a wrap, need advice on the best carrier, or want to ensure you’re carrying your baby ergonomically—a consultant is there to help. The best part? We’ll work together to find what suits you and your baby best. Every parent and child is unique, and a consultant helps you discover solutions tailored to your needs.

What Can You Expect During a Babywearing Consultation?

A typical consultation lasts about 1.5 hours, and you’ll learn a lot in that time. We start with your questions: what do you want to learn, or what challenges are you facing? Maybe you want to try a different carrier or simply gain more confidence in your babywearing skills.

During the session, you’ll have plenty of time to practice. We begin with a demonstration doll—it feels a bit safer—and when you’re ready, you can transition to carrying your own baby. Of course, this only happens if your baby is in the mood. Babywearing should always be a pleasant experience for both of you.

I’ll bring a variety of wraps and carriers for you to try, so you can discover what works best before making a purchase. You’ll also receive plenty of handy babywearing tips that go beyond just carrying.

Babywearing in Special Situations

Sometimes babywearing can be more challenging, for instance, if you or your baby have specific needs or use assistive devices. A babywearing consultant can provide tailored advice in these situations, taking extra time to ensure the best solutions. Babywearing is for everyone, and there’s almost always a way to make it comfortable and safe.

Safe Babywearing: The Basics

Safety is the top priority when it comes to babywearing. Here are some key guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Carry your baby upright: Avoid the cradle position as it can pose a suffocation risk and isn’t ideal for healthy hip development.

  • Keep your baby close enough to kiss: If you can easily kiss the top of your baby’s head, you’re carrying at the right height.

  • Maintain visibility: Make sure your baby’s head isn’t fully covered by the wrap or carrier.

  • Check for chin-to-chest clearance: Leave at least two fingers’ worth of space between your baby’s chin and chest to ensure an open airway.

  • Breastfeeding in a carrier? Take your time and make eye contact. Avoid feeding in a lying position in the wrap, as it can increase the risk of suffocation.

If you’re ever unsure, don’t hesitate to reach out to me for guidance.

How Much Does a Consultation Cost?

The cost of a consultation is €65. If I travel to your home, additional travel costs may apply, which we’ll discuss in advance. I also sell wraps and carriers, so you can start using your new skills right away. Many consultations are covered by health insurance, so it’s worth checking with your provider.

Babywearing: A Worthwhile Investment

Babywearing is so much more than a practical solution. It allows you to keep your baby close while freeing up your hands. It strengthens the bond with your baby and provides the sense of security they need in their early years. Plus, it’s not just good for your baby—it’s good for you, helping to navigate those challenging, restless moments with ease.
